B is for bromeliad. I can’t say enough good things about Truckers, Diggers, and Wings, The Bromeliad Trilogy (yes, there are only three books in this one!) by the late wizard of writing Sir Terry Pratchett. To let you know just how much I love these books, I chose them as a special treat for my son when he turned six to introduce him to the world of Terry Pratchett books. Sure, the humor is a bit complex for a six-year-old but the story is so good that it kept my son’s attention even when he didn’t quite understand what Mom was laughing about. The story is about a clan of Outside gnomes who, much to the surprise of everyone, discover an isolated society of gnomes living under the floorboards of a department store. Terry Pratchett shows his uncanny ability to see the world through gnome-colored lenses as both Outside and Store gnomes are forced to find a way to navigate a world built for humans after learning that the store they know and love is about to be demolished. This trilogy is a great read for kids and adults alike and I highly recommend it as a bedtime read-aloud.
