P is for Pirates! – #AtoZChallenge

I read Gideon Defoe’s THE PIRATES! IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS on a recommendation from the former National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Jon Scieszka. And if you’ve read any of Jon Scieszka’s books, you know that this man knows funny when he sees it. The pirates in The Pirates! series are easily the most humorous swashbucklers to sail the seven seas. With names like the pirate with gout, how couldn’t they be? The pirates set off on a series of adventures, encountering such famous (and infamous) characters as Charles Darwin, Ahab, Karl Marx and Napoleon. To enjoy these books, a reader should be old enough to understand the historical and literary references, say middle school-age and up. But younger readers may still enjoy the adventures as well as the movie based on these books.
